The Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF) on Tuesday commenced the construction of a six-man rank-and-file police quarters at the Ozalla Police Division in Enugu State, as part of efforts to close accommodation gaps for police personnel.
Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the project would improve officers’ welfare and morale.
He conveyed the IGP’s appreciation to the NPTF for the intervention.
Speaking at the ceremony, NPTF Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support for security sector reforms and commended the Enugu State Government for providing the project site, describing it as evidence of intergovernmental collaboration.
Mr Sheidu said the quarters would be delivered with transparency and within the agreed timeline, adding that decent housing remains critical to effective policing.
The Enugu State Police Command urged the Trust Fund to extend its intervention to other facilities in the state, including the renovation of existing police quarters and the construction of a headquarters for the Agbani Area Command.
The project forms part of the NPTF’s nationwide programme covering the construction and rehabilitation of police barracks, training institutions and operational infrastructure.
Officials and community leaders at the event pledged support for the project, which the NPTF said would enhance operational efficiency, improve police-community relations and contribute to local economic activity.
