The new Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, Mr Mamman Giwa, has tasked officers and men of the command, on intelligence-driven policing in the state.
Giwa gave the charge on Wednesday in Enugu, during his inaugural meeting with senior personnel of the command.
He emphasised the importance of operational and emotional intelligence in performing optimally in crime fighting as well as the need to ensure professionalism at all times.
The commissioner warned officers against engaging in extortion and other corrupt practices, indiscriminate and arbitrary arrest of innocent citizens, and prolonged detention.
He also cautioned them against handling frivolous and civil matters, particularly those relating to land disputes, saying that anyone found guilty would be held accountable.
”You must ensure professional, proactive crime-prevention strategies and visibility policing within your respective areas of responsibility.
”Moving forward, security lapses in any part of the state will not be tolerated.
”All officers within this command must redouble their efforts, be more practical and forward-looking in their policing activities,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the meeting was attended by the command’s management team, area commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), heads of tactical squads, sections of the command, and other senior officers.
