The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, has paid glowing tribute to the late Justice Emmanuel Umegbolu Okoye Nri-Ezedi, describing him as a towering figure in the legal profession and a statesman whose influence reached far beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Senator Ekwunife offered her heartfelt condolences during a visit to the Umegbolu family at Uruoji Village, Nri Kingdom in Anaocha Local Government Area, where she joined others in mourning the renowned jurist, who passed away at the age of 82.
Reflecting on his legacy, Ekwunife said Justice Umegbolu stood out not only for his legal brilliance but also for his moral character, noting that he lived a life defined by excellence, honour, and devotion to public service. She remarked that his contributions earned him widespread respect both within and outside Nigeria.
The Senator also encouraged the grieving family to take comfort in the fact that he lived a long and impactful life, adding that it is a blessing when parents live to an old age and are buried by their children. She offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for the loved ones he left behind.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the late jurist’s first son, Chukwuemeka Nri-Ezedi, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Ekwunife’s visit, acknowledging the effort she made to be present despite the demands of her campaign. He said the family was truly grateful and would always remember the kind gesture, praying that God would bless her abundantly.
Justice Emmanuel Umegbolu Okoye is fondly remembered as a brilliant jurist, a strict disciplinarian, and a distinguished son of Nri Kingdom. His funeral was graced by dignitaries and well-wishers, who offered moving tributes in honour of his enduring legacy.
