The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has praised the press for its invaluable contribution to the successes recorded by the commission in the fight against financial crimes in the country.

The Zonal Director, Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Commission, Mohammed Shuaib Bello stated this when he received members of the Corporate Online Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council who paid him a courtesy visit.

Bello, who is a Deputy Commander,
noted that the role of online media had become increasingly important, especially in this age where fake news was the order of the say.

The Director, who assumed duty on April 19, 2024 as the 13th Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Directorate assured of sustained partnership with the Chapel appealing for its continued support in dissemination of achievements of the commission in the zone.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Online Chapel, Clinton Umeh, noted that a stronger relationship between the media and the Commission would foster greater transparency, public awareness and accountability in the discharge of the Commission’s mandate.

Umeh disclosed that the visit was to familiarize the Chapel with the activities of the commission in Enugu Zonal Directorate, and explore a partnership opportunity in providing objective reportage of the Commission’s programmes and activities.

He told the Director that the Chapel was borne out of the genuine desire by NUJ to regulate the conduct of online journalists in line with established codes of practice.
