Delta Boat Mishap: Five Dead, Six Injured And 19 Rescued

Five persons have been confirmed dead while 19 others were rescued following a boat accident which occurred along Bennet Island river in Gharamatu Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said six other victims are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Aprokorepublic gatheredthat the tragic incident occurred on Friday, November 22, 2024, when a speedboat conveying family members returning from a burial ceremony in Gbaramatu collided with a submerged log, causing it to capsize.

The impact caused the boats to capsize, plunging passengers, who were mostly without life jackets, into the water.
