Commissioner Congratulates New Leadership of Enugu Traditional Rulers Council

The Enugu State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, has congratulated the newly inaugurated Traditional Rulers’ Council (TRC) of the State led by Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, and other executive members of the body with a charge to use their positions to advance the cause of Enugu State traditional institution and peace in all the communities in the state.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Enugu by the Commissioner following their inauguration at House of Chiefs, Enugu State House of Assembly by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Recall that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State approved the appointments of the traditional ruler of  Edem-ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state, His Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, and seven others to pilot the affairs of the Council.

His Royal Majesty, Igwe Julius Nnaji of Nike was appointed as the 1st Deputy Chairman of the council, while His Royal Majesty, Igwe Godwin. N. Madu, and His Royal Highness, Igwe Hebert Ukuta, were appointed as the 2nd Deputy Chairman and 3rd Deputy Chairman respectively.

Other members of the council include: His Majesty, Igwe Fidelis Nwatu, Grand Patron; Igwe Abel Nwobodo, 1st Grand Patron; Igwe Augustine Uzobuenyi Otiji, 2nd Grand Patron; Igwe H. C. Eze, 3rd Grand Patron;
HRH Igwe Amb. Lawrence Agubuzo — 4th Grand Patron; and HRH Igwe Greg Ugwu — 5th Grand Patron.

And three principal officers for 16 LGAs of the State.

Deacon Ogbodo, advised the new leadership of the Council to complement the vision of the Ministry and the State Government in order to bequeath the legacy of a Greater Enugu to the people, imploring them to shun all forms of crises and exhibit good behaviour, especially now that their actions and conduct would be subject to public scrutiny.

Ogbodo expressed confidence in the capacity of the current leadership of the Council to support the present administration’s efforts to transform the state for economic growth.

The Commissioner also encouraged the new executive to continue to broker peace and guard against issues that could lead to crisis within the Council in the interest of the organisation and the entire citizens of Enugu State.

He commended the Governor, Peter Mbah for his support, assuring that the body, through the newly inaugurated leaders can now form a formidable force with the State Government to promote people oriented policies and programmes of the government.

The Commissioner promised the council of the constant support of the State Government through the Ministry, urging them to explore the open door policy of the present administration to always express themselves and get the buy-in of the government in all their activities.
