CHIEF KELVIN OBIEGBUNAM DRUMS SUPPORT FOR SENATOR UCHE EKWUNIFE
As the Anambra governorship election draws near, it is imperative for us, the people of Nri community, to look beyond the veil as we choose our candidate ahead of the November 8 election. On one side of the coin is our wife, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom), who is running as the APC deputy governorship candidate alongside Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, the governorship candidate.
It is on record that the Nri community has been immensely impacted through developmental projects and programmes by our respected wife, Senator Ekwunife, who has without doubt been a blessing to our community in many ways. During my tenure as President General, Senator Ekwunife showed great interest in the activities of the Nri Progress Union (NPU). Her contributions to the socio-economic development of our community before, during, and after my tenure as PG are unquantifiable.
Some of the projects Senator Ekwunife attracted while I was President General include:
– Rebuilding of the burnt library and the basic technology block at Regal Secondary School
– Renovation of the multi-purpose hall at Regal Secondary School
– Rebuilding of the laboratory block at Regal Secondary School
– Water borehole at Eke Nri
– Solar-powered water borehole at Anuoye, Uruoji
– Construction of two 3-bedroom bungalows at Ward I and Ward II
– Gift of three tricycles to three indigene beneficiaries
– Drainage and erosion control work at Uruoji Hall
– Rehabilitation of Obalike Road, Uruoji
– Construction of a church bell tower at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
– Salvage project for displaced clergy at St. Mary’s Anglican Church
– Asphalting of Eke Nri Market Square
– Establishment of a civic centre, with the main building constructed, furnished, and equipped
Others include:
– Construction of the ultra-modern Eke-Nri Market
– Solar-powered street lighting
– Construction of a 20-bed hospital at Ebede
– Renovation of Sir Dominic Ifezue Hall at Ebede
– Construction of a classroom block (1 No.) at Central School, Nri
– Construction of Sir Dr. O. Ifezue Road, Uruofolo
– Ogininese–Ekeagu–St. Peter’s Church Road
– Construction of Umuabana Nwaro Road
– Anuoye–Ezi Abana Obele Road
– Supply of books and stationery to Regal Secondary School and Central Primary School
– Distribution of 40 motorcycles to some indigenes
– Several free medical outreaches

For me, Senator Ekwunife’s deputy governorship candidacy is an opportunity for Ndi Nri to once again reward her contributions to the development of our community. With Iyom, we are certain that our community will receive all-round attention in all crucial areas of development. We are also confident that all flagged-off projects will be completed—unlike what has happened in the past, where projects launched before elections were abandoned once the elections were over.
I encourage our people to stand by Iyom ahead of the November 8 governorship contest. Our support for her in the election will further encourage her to do even more for our people, as she has always done.
God bless us all.
Chief Dr. Kelvin Obiegbunam (Oba Ochendo)
Immediate Past President General, Nri Kingdom
