Breaking: Doyen Of Accounting, Pa Akintola Williams, Passes On At 104

An icon of accounting, Pa Akintola Williams, has died at the age of 104.

Pa Williams who reportedly died in his sleep in the early hours of, Monday, September 11, 2023 was Nigeria’s first indigenous Chartered Accountant, and stood out as pioneer of the accounting profession in Nigeria.

The foremost accountant born in 1919, studied accounting at the University of London and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1947.

He returned to set up his accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co. in Nigeria. The firm is now known as Deloitte & Touche, in 1952. A strong advocate for developing the accounting profession in Nigeria, Pa Williams was a founding member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and pioneer president from 1963 to 1965.

He was member, National Board of Accountants and Auditors, Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a recipient of Nigeria’s national honours including, Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).
