Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu Prosper, an Anambra-born NYSC member (BY/24B/2451) serving in Bayelsa State has renovated four dilapidated classroom blocks in Community Primary School, Swali, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
This has restored school infrastructure, and carried out multiple community empowerment projects. The project during completed during his 2024 Batch B service year.
Brown’s vision is to provide a safe and conducive learning environment after witnessing the poor condition of classrooms where pupils studied under leaking roofs and damaged facilities.
He quickly mobilized resources from well-meaning individuals, replaced roofs, installed PVC ceilings, fixed nine new doors and 24 windows, repainted classrooms, and improved the school’s overall outlook.
During his posting to the Nigeria Police Force in Bayelsa, Brown-Ofoeme initially planned an anti-cultism awareness project. However, a visit to the school changed his focus.
“Seeing children learning in flooded, broken classrooms touched me deeply. I knew I had to act,” he said.
Apart from the renovation, he provided free eye check-ups and medication for NYSC officials, donated exercise books to over 200 pupils, trained Swali women in sack and soilless farming, distributing free seedlings, facilitated soap and disinfectant production training with free products for participants and organized a two-day free medical outreach for the Swali community.

Brown-Ofoeme’s initiative has not only given pupils a safer environment but also strengthened community health and economic empowerment. His work stands as a model of visionary youth service that impacts lives beyond the classroom.
