A statesman and the Owelle of Nsukka, Dr. Ejikeme Odumegwu, has urged youths in Anambra State to reject violence and electoral thuggery ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Speaking with journalists in Enugu, Odumegwu, who also coordinates the National Youth Solidarity for Good Governance, cautioned against acts of criminality and bloodshed during the poll.

“My advice to the youths of Anambra is simple — shun thuggery, violence and assault. No one should take another’s life in the name of election,” he said.

He warned that those who engage in such vices often end up abandoned and forgotten after elections, and urged young people to act with wisdom and restraint.

Odumegwu also appealed to voters to exercise their conscience and avoid selling their votes, noting that citizens who trade their mandate lose the moral right to criticise governance failures.

While commenting on the contest, he said the performance of the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, would ultimately determine voters’ choices.

“If Soludo has performed creditably, the people will know. If not, they have the power to make a change,” he said.
