The Anambra state NSCDC Boss has pledged ironclad security, strategic intelligence and stakeholder synergy ahead of Nov. 8 Polls.
This pledge came during an advocacy visit by the Yiaga Africa Board and Management Team to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
“We’re not here to watch from the sidelines. We are the frontline guardians of Nigeria’s electoral integrity,” declared Commandant Maku.
Commandant Maku emphasized the Corps’ intention to deploy a multi-layered security strategy rooted in intelligence gathering, civic engagement, and inter-agency collaboration.
He highlighted the vital role of civil society organizations (CSOs), such as Yiaga Africa, in developing early-warning systems to detect and de-escalate any form of electoral threat.
“Preventing violence is more effective than reacting to it,” he said confidently.
He added that the Corps would fully support Yiaga Africa’s pre-election assessment mission, which aims to identify potential flashpoints, monitor political behavior, and assess community sentiments across all 21 local government areas of the state.
On her part, Director of Programs, Mrs. Cynthia Mbamalu, praised the NSCDC for its consistency and credibility in securing election processes across Nigeria. She described the agency as a “strategic partner in safeguarding electoral credibility.”
She disclosed that Yiaga will be deploying long-term observers across the state, tracking signs of political violence, hate speech, voter intimidation, and gender-based discrimination before they spiral out of control.
As political temperatures rise ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has declared its unwavering readiness to defend democracy with precision, professionalism, and proactive intelligence.
Yiaga Africa, a frontline pro-democracy organization, is also taking bold steps to support the electoral process.
Commandant Maku further urged voters, political parties, and community leaders to “see security as a collective responsibility.”
