Anya Ndi Igbo, a non-partisan organisation committed to advancing the collective interest and development of the Igbo nation, has appointed veteran journalist, Felix Oguejiofor Abugu, as its new Secretary.
Abugu takes over from Emeka Nwadioke, who had been acting in the position following the election of the pioneer Secretary, Okey Nwadinobi, as Deputy President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide in January 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 28, 2025, the Chairman of the Media and Strategic Communications Committee of Anya Ndi Igbo, Ikechukwu Amaechi, said Abugu was chosen on account of his professional distinction, integrity, and deep engagement with contemporary Igbo realities within the Nigerian federation.
According to the statement, the organisation remains steadfast in its mission to promote peace, security, and sustainable development across Ala-Igbo, while also working to strengthen peaceful coexistence between the Igbo and other ethnic nationalities in the country.
A seasoned journalist, Abugu has held several key editorial positions in the Nigerian media landscape. He was Editor of Saturday Guardian, Pioneer Features Editor of ThisDay, Pioneer Managing Editor of New Telegraph, and later Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the same paper. He also founded and managed The Oracle Today, an Onitsha-based publication, and is currently Co-publisher and Editor-in-Chief of AbeyaNews, an online news platform.
Beyond journalism, Abugu has contributed to public service and community development.
He served as a member of the Federal Government Publicity Committee on Capital Relocation, and is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and the South East Editors Platform (SEEPLAT). He also sits on the board of IKORO Collective, a network of senior Igbo journalists and media influencers engaged in public policy advocacy for the Igbo.
A respected community leader, Abugu currently serves as Secretary to the Committee on Reform of Umuida Town Union, Enugu-Ezike, and continues to play significant roles in the socio-political development of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Born on December 26, 1962, in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State, Abugu holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu; Postgraduate Diplomas in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and in Community Relations from the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Media and Communications (Media Enterprise) at the Pan-Atlantic University, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
While welcoming him to his new role, the leadership of Anya Ndi Igbo expressed confidence that Abugu would bring renewed energy and direction to the organisation.
The statement also commended Okey Nwadinobi for laying a strong institutional foundation as pioneer Secretary and Emeka Nwadioke for his stewardship during the transition period.
