The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private secondary schools as well as state-owned and privately run tertiary institutions, citing recent security concerns in parts of the state.

The directive was announced in a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and his Basic and Secondary Education counterpart, Dr. Halima Bande, in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

According to the statement, the affected institutions include the State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; and the College of Education, Argungu.

However, the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, is exempt from the shutdown and will continue academic activities.

The government urged management of the affected schools to ensure full compliance with the directive, while assuring students, parents and staff that a new resumption date will be communicated once the security situation improves.
