The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has renewed engagement with producers of table water and bread in the South-East, insisting on stricter compliance with safety and quality standards.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ sensitisation forum in Enugu on Tuesday, the agency’s South-East Zonal Director, Dr. Festus Ukadike, said despite progress in sanitising the sectors, gaps in hygiene, process control and documentation still persist.

Ukadike identified regulatory compliance, sanitation, process flow, quality control and good documentation practices as critical areas demanding urgent attention.

He stressed that water and baked products remained essential consumer items, making it imperative for producers to adhere to approved standards.

The zonal director warned that the agency would no longer tolerate violations of its regulations or obstruction of its enforcement officers.

Chairman of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) in Enugu, Mr. Tony Edike, commended NAFDAC’s sustained guidance but noted that the forum provided an opportunity for producers to address operational challenges affecting compliance.

Similarly, Chairman of the Supreme Bakers and Confectioners Association, Enugu, Mr. Sunday Akam, pledged continued cooperation with NAFDAC to ensure members meet all regulatory requirements.

The sensitisation session featured presentations on premises requirements, personnel standards, sanitation and hygiene protocols, process flow, good documentation practices and the agency’s e-registration system.
