The pan-Igbo socio-political organisation, Anya-Ndi-Igbo, has paid glowing tribute to elder statesman and policy scholar, Dr. Uma Oke Eleazu (OON), describing him as “an oasis of moral rectitude and a model of character in a nation burdened by leadership deficits.”

The commendation came during a grand reception in Umuahia, Abia State, hosted by Governor Alex Otti in honour of the 95-year-old statesman.

In a statement signed by Engr. Chris Okoye, President of Anya-Ndi-Igbo, and co-signed by other Igbo leaders, the group lauded Governor Otti for “a rare fidelity to promise,” recalling his earlier pledge during Dr. Eleazu’s birthday in Lagos to celebrate him again at home, a promise now fulfilled.

“It is not often that political leaders keep faith with their word, especially when there is no political consequence for default,” the statement read. “Dr. Otti has shown himself a different breed of politician.”

Anya-Ndi-Igbo said the honour accorded to Dr. Eleazu reflects the Igbo tradition of giving recognition to merit, stressing that true leadership means celebrating those who have served humanity selflessly.

The group noted that Dr. Eleazu was among the earliest and most consistent supporters of Governor Otti’s political journey, adding that his performance in office had vindicated that confidence.

It cited Eleazu’s remark in TheNiche newspaper: “Since Dr. Otti became governor, I have started having hope that things can change. He uses public funds for public purposes.”

Describing the elder statesman as “a study in patriotism and a national treasure,” the group praised his lifelong contributions to public policy, leadership thought, and post-war national development.
