The 2025 Ofala Festival of His Majesty, the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi), held in Onitsha, Anambra State, drew dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.
Among the prominent attendees was the former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, who described the event as one of Nigeria’s most cherished cultural celebrations.
In a statement shared after the event, Obi expressed his admiration for the rich display of Onitsha’s cultural heritage and praised the monarch for his steadfast leadership and efforts in preserving Igbo traditions.
“The Ofala Festival remains one of our most cherished cultural celebrations, and I have had the privilege of attending it often since my secondary school days at Christ the King College, Onitsha,” Obi said. “It was truly heartwarming to behold the vibrant display of tradition that has stood the test of time and continues to define the identity of our people.”
He commended Igwe Achebe for his wisdom, humility, and commitment to fostering unity and progress among the people of Onitsha, noting that his reign continues to inspire peace and development.
Obi also extended prayers for the monarch’s continued health and long life, while wishing the people of Onitsha a joyous celebration.
“May the Almighty continue to bless him with long life, wisdom, and good health, and may the land of Onitsha continue to flourish in peace, prosperity, and joy,” he added.
The Ofala Festival, an annual cultural celebration, serves as a period of thanksgiving, renewal, and communal unity for the Onitsha people, and continues to attract national and international attention for its grandeur and deep traditional significance.
