The Lagos State Government has postponed the start of construction for its $3 billion Green Line rail project to December 2025.

The update was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement shared on the state government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, October 13. Osiyemi had previously stated in April that the project would begin before the end of 2024.

When completed, the 70-kilometre Green Line will connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, passing through Victoria Island, Ajah, Sangotedo, and the Lekki corridor. The line will feature 17 stations along a combination of elevated and ground-level tracks and is designed to be completed in phases over two to three years.

According to the commissioner, the first phase of construction will span from the Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase, beginning at Marina, will include an on-water segment.
