Amb. Chimbo Obieze, the Special Envoy on Sustainable Peace Education to the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC), has called for concerted efforts to promote unity and safety worldwide.

Obieze made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday and made available to journalists in Enugu in recognition of the UN International Day of Peace, which is celebrated annually on Sept. 21.

According to him, on this day, we honour the tireless efforts of individuals and organisations working to end conflicts and promote peace worldwide.

“It is a day of ceasefire, a moment for personal reflection, and a call to action for global unity,” he said.

Obieze lauded the Nigerian Police for the organisation’s efforts to bring unity, peace and safety in most Nigerian communities, adding “Despite every odd, the Police are still working.”

“Let’s appreciate their dedication and rebuild the bond of trust that keeps our communities safe.

“Even when we are asleep, someone stands watch because we are involved,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of education in promoting peace and sustainable development.

The UN envoy highlighted his personal support for universal basic education through scholarships and aid to needy pupils in Nigeria and beyond.

“As we celebrate the International Day of Peace, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting peace education, tolerance and understanding.

“Together, we can create a more harmonious and peaceful world,” he added.
