Envoy Monanu Inaugurated As CCN Chairman S’East

Territorial Envoy Dr Levi Monanu, has been installed as the Chairman of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), South East zone.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Lady Chapel, Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Independence Layout, Enugu, was presided over by the President of the Council, Most Rev. Dr. David Onuoha, who urged him and his executive to work towards the unity in one father and build the capacity of member church, reflecting the character of Christ.

In his address, the newly installed CCN Chairman, South-East, Dr Monanu, assured the CCN national leadership that he and other executive from southeast would continue to initiate programmes that strengthens love, equity and harmony across the land.

He equally encouraged people of the zone to rise to their civic duty by getting  registered, obtain their voter’s cards, and vote credible leaders at all levels of governance.

“We will also encourage our people to rise to their civic duty, to get registered, obtain their voter’s cards, and vote credible leaders at all levels of governance”.

The chairman also pledged to break denominational walls and collaborating  with others as one body in Christ and promote dialogue, reconciliation, and a feeling of camaraderie  in their various communities.

He said the council would support men and women of vision, integrity, and impeccable character to lead as well as ensuring that the youth, women, and marginalised were included in the journey of faith and nation-building.

“Our calling is explicit – to unite in Christ, walk in peace, and to take responsibility for shaping the future of our society.

“If we stand together, we will not only strengthen the church, but also secure a Southeast where faith inspires unity, unity sustains peace, and peace drives development,” Monanu said.

Earlier, the Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Sam Ike, tasked  christian leaders on service, holiness and humility for the betterment of the society and advancement of Christendom.

The bishop called on christian leaders to emulate Christ by using their exalted office to serve both God and humanity as well as ensuring there were unity among christian faiths.

According to him, each of us, as individual Christians are as members of the universal church which is one body of Christ.

He reminded them that without holiness
no minister, no bishop, general overseer and reverend would see God, tasking them to become light that shines in the world in truth and character.

“Church leaders should stop comparing themselves with others as doing so is unwise. They should put end to prosperity preaching and fake miracles,  he advised.

The clergyman, however, charged the new CCN executive on teamwork and to exhibit the virtues of patience, service, humanity and gentleness, admonishing them to live up to the expectations and accept each others fault.

The event was well attended by clergymen from different Christian denominations, family members, members of the CCN from the South East zone, and friends of the new executive.

Meanwhile, the CCN is a fellowship of churches in Nigeria that believe in God the Father, revealed in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and are working together to promote the glory of the Triune God in the unity of the churches and the realisation of God’s mission in the world.

The council is the first ecumenical and faith-based organisation founded in Nigeria in November 1929.
