A home-coming, a festival of peace and prosperity — Igwe Sir Thomas Ikenna Obidiegwu

It was indeed a home coming for the people of lhiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Over the years insecurity has been on the rise thereby making people of the area to fled their homes to seeking for a safe place to live as result of insecurity, but today normalcy has started returning to the area.

The traditional ruler of Ihiala Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Igwe Sir Thomas Ikenna Obidiegwu the Oluoha and Clan Head of Ihiala celebrated the new yam festival in his palace, Umunnebuogwu, Okohia, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, a festival which he described as a festival of peace and prosperity in Umunnebuogwu.

Amidst the official celebration of the New Yam Festival, Igwe Sir Thomas Ikenna Obidiegwu also awarded Chieftaincy honour of Ichies to some sons of Ihiala, those who have placed priority to themselves and in their various academic and business careers, and also received them as new members of his cabinet as part of the activities to mark the 2025 New Yam Festival.

Addressing journalists during the event in his palace, His Royal Highness, Igwe Sir Thomas Ikenna Obidiegwu expressed joy that normalcy has returned and insecurity is now a thing of the past, he therefore thanked every sons and daughters of ihiala who made it to the event without any fear of insecurity.

The Monarch, while expressing his gratitude, haild governor Soludo’s administration for setting up Agunaechemba Security Outfit which he said has helped in restoring lasting peace in Ihiala, he further opined that security is a everybody’s business and everyone has to be part of security to ensure that peace reign in the community

In his part, the interim President -General of Ihiala Progress Union (IPU), Hon Livinus Omatu thanked the youth for their steadfastness in ensuring that the traditional festival was successful he appealed for more collaborative effort to be made in future events to ensure that peace come back to the community.

His words: “I must begin by commending the youth of Umunnebuogwu and lhiala in general for organizing and being part of this beautiful event, your initiative, passion, and respect for our cultural heritage give us hope for a brighter future. You have proven that tradition and modernity can walk hand in hand and that the legacy of our ancestors is safe in your capable hands.”
