The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), in the November 8, Anambra State gubernatorial election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has declared his intention to return governance to the people, by ensuring that the cardinal principles of democracy are entrenched in the governance of Anambra state.
Chukwuma spoke to journalists at his country home in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The YPP governorship candidate said he is on a mission to bring a paradigm shift in the art of governance, by giving life to the constitutional roles assigned to the three arms of government.
He vowed to ensure that the three arms of government enjoy the independence given to them by the Nigerian constitution in the interest of the people.
According to him, his administration will respect and strengthen the independence of the arms of the government as well as the local government.
The Umueri born politician said a robust three arms of government will catalyze and unlease the ideal democracy that Anambra people deserve. “I will ensure a robust house of Assembly; I will champion the Independence of legislature; I don’t want a legislature that will be inside his pocket”, he said.
The educationist declared that his strategy of ensuring even development at the grassroots will be driven by a local government that is independent.
According to him, he will conduct a very transparent and credible local government election and will not interfere with local government administration or their funding.
Sir Chukwuma promised to deploy his security vote to tackle insecurity within the first six months of his administration. According to him, his approach to security will be guided by law, professionalism, respect for human right and human dignity.
While noting that he is in the governorship race to win; not to exchange words with the incumbent or throw jabs, the Pro-Chancellor Olivia University Bujumbura Burundi, said his campaign will be anchored on issues and solutions, not personal attacks. “I am not in this race to engage in theatrics or run a campaign of insults, especially against fellow contestants,” “My focus is on articulating concrete plans for governance and explaining to Ndi Anambra how I intend to rebuild and reposition our state.”he said.
Chukwuma said, “I’m committed to running an issue-based campaign. I want to tell Ndi Anambra why I have offered myself to serve them. I will point out the systemic failures, economic, infrastructural, and social that have plagued our state, and most importantly, how I plan to fix them.”
He stated that Anambra deserves leadership built on character, integrity, competence, vision, humility, humanity, responsibility and responsiveness, which he represents.
