A viral video has surfaced showing Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu, popularly known as Ikukuoma, the APC gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, being confronted by a group of men over an alleged one billion naira debt.
In the video, Chief Ukachukwu was leaving a hotel in Abuja with his wife and young son when the men appeared and began demanding the alleged debt.
In response to the incident, the Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organization issued a statement asserting that the confrontation was a poorly executed political stunt. The statement read, “When you see a staged video, you will know. The circulating video claiming that Ikukuoma was attacked by people he allegedly owes ₦1 billion is nothing but a scripted political drama, staged and sponsored to discredit a rising force ahead of the Anambra governorship election.”
The statement continued by questioning the motives of the supposed creditors: “First, let us ask the obvious: why are these so-called ‘creditors’ shouting about the Anambra election instead of quietly collecting their alleged debt? Is the highway the new courtroom? Is the street the new bank? If someone is truly owed ₦1 billion, is a public confrontation on the road how they intend to recover it? Any serious creditor knows that such a debt requires legal documentation, contracts, collateral, and, most importantly, lawyers. But here, there is none.”
The statement concluded by highlighting the suspicious timing of the confrontation, considering that the Anambra gubernatorial election is approaching.
