In a bold move to quash swirling rumours, the Anambra State Government has unequivocally denied plans to build a second airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North LGA. It has taken time to address unchecked speculation with clarity, precision, and confidence.

According to reports, it gathered that during a recent official visit to the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC), observers saw surveyors and technical teams inspecting large swathes of land. Instantly, this led to whispers viz: is this the start of a new airport project in Ndikelionwu?

The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, PhD, stepped in to address the situation. He said, “there is no decision yet to build an airport or railway to serve AMIC. The purpose of the site visit was to conduct technical investigations to find out where such infrastructure could go.”

AMIC isn’t just about transport only. The master plan sketches a bold future of, a 4,000-hectare industrial city, a pharmaceutical hub, education and medical facilities that meet global standards, housing clusters, business districts, and tourism enclaves all designed for sustainable growth.

The idea of an airport for AMIC isn’t far-fetched. Multimodal transport (air, rail, road) is being studied as part of Governor Soludo aggressive Urban Renewal Plan.

However, the word “studied” is not meaning “approved.” It is pertinent that in Anambra, where land, industry, and innovation are converging, every technical study draws attention.

The state commissioner said the Government promises that when a decision is made, people will hear it from them, not hearsay.

“No second airport in Ndikelionwu, not yet anyway,” he affirmed.

The State is investigating transport options as part of AMIC’s vision. AMIC remains poised to become a powerful engine for industry, innovation, healthcare, education and possibly transport in Anambra.
