Gov. Mbah Charges Enugu Civil Servants To Embrace e-Governance

Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has charged civil servants to adopt digital governance practices in line with his administration’s commitment to innovation, transparency and efficiency in public service delivery.

Mbah gave the charge on Monday at the closing ceremony of a three-day e-Government Capacity Building Programme for 110 government officials drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) held at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu.

The training was organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the Enugu State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the governor called for a new approach to public service, centered on the integration of digital tools and systems to improve governance outcomes.

He said that his administration “is prioritising the transformation of the civil service through technology, with a focus on speed, accountability and smart service delivery.“

“We have significantly reduced the use of carbon and paper in government operations. This is what e-governance is all about — working smart, not hard.

“The administration is investing in both infrastructure and human capital to ensure that public service in Enugu State is modernised and result-oriented.

“We want to give civil servants the right training and the right tools to work, and then expect positive results.

“This programme is part of a broader vision for e-governance, which promotes efficiency, effectiveness and prudence across all levels of government,” he said.

Mbah described the capacity-building as one of the training mapped out for continuous learning and the adoption of modern methods.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity and continue to align themselves with the administration’s goals.

“This is not a one-time event. It is the start of a culture that values innovation, accountability and continuous improvement,” he said.

The governor commended the Federal Ministry and KOICA for their support in making the training a reality, while praising Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Lawrence Ezeh, for his leadership in coordinating the programme.

“Dr Ezeh is a man who shines no matter where you place him,” the governor said.

Speaking, Ezeh described the training as a transformative step in implementing the governor’s digital agenda.

He said that the programme aligns with global trends and reflects the Mbah administration’s commitment to digital governance.

“This training is part of a strategic roadmap laid out by His Excellency, Gov. Peter Mbah, to make Enugu State one of Nigeria’s leading states in digital public service delivery,” the Commissioner said.

Ezeh noted that the training covered a broad range of digital competencies included: digital document management and inter-agency collaboration tools through digitalisation.

“The goal is to equip public servants with the skills needed to streamline operations and reduce bureaucratic delays,” he said.

According to him, Gov. Mbah’s vision is to ensure that every sector of the state becomes innovation-driven and technology-inclined, enabling Enugu to meet international standards in governance.

“The governor is determined to ensure that every fabric of Enugu’s governance system is transformed through innovation, science, and technology. This will position Enugu State not just for national leadership in digital governance, but for global competitiveness,” he said.
