The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, said she has contacted the corps member assaulted by the state’s vigilance operatives, Udo-ga-chi, Jennifer Elohor, to sympathise with her over the unfortunate incident.
Dr. Soludo disclosed this to journalists in Awka, on Wednesday, saying she had invited her to the New Government House for a meeting on how to resolve the issue with a view to comforting her and ensuring the incident did not traumatise her
She said, “I have called her and sympathised with her over the unfortunate incident and also invited her to the New Government House for a meeting to comfort her and ensure she is not traumatised.
“I was deeply disturbed by the way that lady was assaulted. There is absolutely no justification for such a cruel and humiliating act of abuse.
“I have reached out to the corps member to check on her well-being and extended an invitation to her.
“However, she informed me that she was currently not in Anambra. I asked her to contact me as soon as she returns.”
Elohor, in a now viral video, was seen being brutalised by operatives of the Udo-ga-chi, where the operatives invaded the corps lodge in Oba, Idemili South LGA of the state.
The action has been roundly condemned by civil society organisations and human rights groups, with some people calling for the disbandment of the security outfit.
Also, on Wednesday, the Anambra State Government, through the Agunechemba Security outfit, dismissed eight of the operatives for their involvement in the brutal assault and public stripping of Elobor.
Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, on Community Security, stated this at the Agunechemba headquarters in Awka, on Wednesday.
Emeakayi said the state government acted swiftly after receiving disturbing reports about the incident, adding that the dismissed operatives will be handed over to the police for immediate prosecution.
