The Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Aka Eze Aka, has ordered the revocation of the Ukwu Akpu–Obollo Afor Market Link Road project due to the alleged failure to meet expectations by the contractor.

Aka gave the order in Obollo on Wednesday while inspecting ongoing infrastructural projects within the Obollo Afor Market axis.

The council boss expressed dissatisfaction with the level of work executed by the contractor, adding that the pace and quality of the job had fallen significantly below agreed contractual standards.

“The work done here is far below the expectations of the Council and the people. There is no room for mediocrity in our development agenda,” the visibly displeased Chairman remarked. “The contract is hereby revoked and will be re-awarded to a more competent firm with the capacity to deliver quality results promptly.”

He stressed that the road was originally scheduled for completion well ahead of time but suffered unjustifiable delays and technical flaws that failed basic integrity checks.

Meanwhile, the council boss has commended the contractor handling the Obollo Ag’ag’ Roundabout reconstruction.

This, Aka said, would reflect the town’s emerging urban landscape.

Aka said the contractor adhered to project specifications and prompt delivery timelines.

“This is exactly what we envisioned when we awarded this project. Urbanization demands quality aesthetics and functionality. I commend the contractor for doing justice to this monument,” he said.

He tasked the local government town engineer, Valentine Onyishi, to remain vigilant and continue exercising his oversight duties diligently.

“Inspection should not be ceremonial. You must ensure that every project reflects the value for public funds. The people of Udenu deserve nothing less,” he added.

It would be recalled that the  administration of Aka Eze Aka, introduced a multi-layered project inspection and evaluation mechanism to monitor all infrastructural projects under its purview.

This system includes unannounced visits, third-party engineering audits, and community feedback components, all designed to ensure transparency and quality.

Traders and some bystanders were heard expressing happiness at the Chairman’s firm leadership and decisive action, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to service delivery.

“The Chairman’s visit today has shown us he is not one to be deceived. He listens to the people and acts immediately. We commend him,” said Mr. Anayo Eze, a shop owner near the market.
