Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the appointment of new leadership for Enugu State Forest Guard.
According to a statement by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, retired Colonel Dan Didiugwu, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board, while retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Olamitisoji Akinbamilayo, takes over as the Commander.
The statement explains that Col Didiugwu’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly, while Dr. Akinbamilayo’s appointment takes effect immediately.
It added that the appointment was part of the State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and professionalise forest and environmental security operations across Enugu State, in alignment with government’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources.
The statement further announced that the office of Commander of the Forest Guard supersedes the previously existing position of State Coordinator, which is now abolished.
“The State Government expresses confidence in the capacity and experience of both Colonel Didiugwu and DCP Akinbamilayo to reposition the Forest Guard into a highly responsive and efficient outfit.”the statement added.
