An Enugu-based non-governmental organisation, Aneke Paschal Onyeka Care Foundation, has donated exercise books to 1,000 pupils in two public primary schools in Enugu South Council Area.
The schools are Amechi Primary School, Awkunanaw, Enugu and Central School Akwuke both located in Enugu South Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State.
Distributing the exercise books to the pupils, the Programme Officer of the foundation, Mr Obinna Ogbu, said the gesture was part of the group’s ongoing project to advance education in Nigeria.
Ogbu also described it as a way of empowering pupils to achieve their dreams in life by supporting them with educational materials.
He said that two more primary schools each from three LGAs, namely Ezeagu, Nkanu West and Nkanu East, where also selected to benefit from the donation.
He said: “We started today with Amechi and Akwuke Primary Schools and over 1,000 pupils are going home with exercise books
“The foundation chose education because it is the only thing that you give people to impact their lives positively.
“You cannot think of developing a whole man without education.
“Some of these children have big dreams that needed another to push through to help them become what they desire in life.
“So, our founder came up with this project to ensure that the pupils realise their dreams.”
He further said that the foundation was created to design a world where Nigerians could be empowered to become active citizens by creating a brighter future for them.
“Other areas we cover include access to quality education, vocational skills, mentorship opportunities and others.
“For us to achieve these goals, we map out plans, such as reaching out to the poor in our society, especially the indigent students, through scholarships,” he said.
The Head Teacher, Mrs Beatrice Onoh, Amechi Primary School Awkunanaw, said she was impressed and grateful for the visit, pointing out that the foundation was the first to visit the school since its resumption in May.
Onoh thanked the foundation for remembering the school, urging other philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians to always give back to society by supporting education.
Also, the Headboy of Amechi Primary School, Awkunanaw, Nnamani Humphrey, expressed gratitude to God for the kind gesture, promising that they would put the book in good use.
Aproko Republic reports that the foundation is founded and supported by Chief Paschal Aneke, who hails from Mgbagbu-Owa in Ezeagu Council Area of the state.
