St. Ann’s College Enugu Alumni Hold First Reunion, Inauguration

The old students of St. Ann’s College, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu East Council Area, over the weekend, held their inaugural reunion.

The school, established in the “80s by the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation (DDL) as a vocational institute was later changed to secondary school in 2001.

The occasion is the first time the old students of the institution are coming together, after years of establishment.

The event which took place at the College premises, Abakpa Nike, Enugu was used to reunite the old students in one place, and also get them to be involved in the development and building of the college.

The inaugural reunion began with a Holy Mass, by Rev Fr Anthony Udemba, of Capuchin Franciscan Friary.

Fr. Udemba congratulated the old students for putting the occasion together, noting that it was a big privilege for them to come together after many years of leaving the college.

He urged them to be part of building the school even as he encouraged the students to emulate the old students.

The Principal of the school, Rev Sister Kamfechukwu Moedu, in a welcome address, solicited the collaboration of the old students to uplift the college.

Sister Moedu congratulated them and advised the old students to always remember the school.

The PTA Chairman of the School and Father of the Occasion, Mr.Christian Orji,
urged the old students to engage more in the affairs of the school and also congratulated them on their inauguration.

Hon Immaculate Ibe, Former Technical Adviser to Ebonyi State governor and current Coordinator, Afikpo Northeast, who is an old student of the school, expressed delight in the occasion.

She praised the school management and advocated proper engagements towards the uplift of the school.

In a remark, the Chairman of the old students, Mr Michael Onovo, said that the reunion would help galvanize the efforts of some old students, to give back to the institution that made them.

He also observed that it was an avenue for the old students to reflect on what needs to be done to uplift the school, the students and also the staff, by encouraging them to give in upholding the vision of the congregation that set up the school.

Chairman of the planning committee, Mr Martins Onyeka Ani, urged the old students to do more for the college and encouraged the students to engage more in school activities.

He said that the aim of the re-union was to foster unity and reconnect with old students of the college as well as give everyone a sense of belonging.

Success Ogbuagu, a student of the college in JSS2 and Kelvin Ekeozo of JSS1, thanked the old students for organizing the occasion, saying it will give them more privilege to engage with them.

The Education Counsellor, DDL, Congregation, Rev Sister Prudence Oriaku, thanked the old students and congratulated them on their inauguration, adding that it is the first time such was taking place in the history of the school.

She encouraged them to always have engagements among them as it will strengthen their love and collaborations.

Lillian Amarachi Eze, an old student, thanked the committee members and her fellow old students for having the idea to organize a re-union, noting that it has given them the opportunity to see each other after so many years.

The event featured many activities such as launching of the school’s Magazine, unveiling of flex for the old students, re-union, and inauguration of the first executive.

Others are cultural performances, welcome songs and so many other side attractions added colour to the occasion.
