The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, sir Paul Chukwuma has picked Chief Uzu Okagbue as his running mate.
Uzu, a former Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to former governor, Willie Obiano, was unveiled as the running mate to Chukwuma at a meeting with the party’s stake working committee and 21 local government chairmen, in Awka on Friday.
While unveiling Uzu before the party leaders, Chukwuma stated that his running mate was a product of wide consultations with various stakeholders, including the religious leaders.
He expressed confidence in Uzu’s ability, capacity and commitment to their common vision of offering Anambra a credible governance alternative.
On his part, Okagbue, who accepted his nominated, pledged his loyalty to the party and its governorship candidate.
He assured to bring his competence, strengthen and network in working for the realisation of the political ambition of the party.
Uzu Okagbue brings a wealth of political and governance experience to the ticket.
The native of Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, is the last son of the influential Chief Chike Okagbue of Bessoy Group; a very successful businessman. He holds a strong academic foundation, having studied at prestigious institutions, both home and abroad.
He has a Diploma in Law from the University of Abuja and Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, from the University of Abuja.
Okagbue worked with Fidelity Bank Abuja for almost ten years, before he was invited by the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie M. Obiano, to join him in the service of Anambra State.
From 2014 to 2018, Uzu served as Governor Obiano’s Chief of Protocol. In addition to the position of the Chief of Protocol to the Governor, Uzu was also appointed the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor and served in this dual capacity from 2018 to 2022.
