In continuation of its statewide familiarisation tour of the 17 council areas in Enugu State, Barr. Nana Ogbodo, the Chairman Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, led members of the body on a working visit to Enugu South Local Government.
The aim of the visit was to acquaint workers with Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership philosophy and ensuring alignment with the administration’s goals and objectives.
Ogbodo who was received at the council Secretariat, Uwani, by Hon. Caleb Ani, the chairman of the local government,
charged workers to key into Gov Mbah’s agenda and vision to drive accelerated economic growth.

This, he noted, would enable the state achieve a zero percent poverty headcount through massive value chain involvement in agricultural sector.
Ogbodo emphasized the need for the workers to reciprocate government’s good gesture by being diligent at their individual and collective duty posts.
He emphasised governor Mbah’s firm commitment to increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State from 4.4 billion dollars to $30b.
The chairman maintained that Mbah’s mission was to get every hands on deck to ensure that each worker achieved something each day at work.
“The previous narratives of earning salary while being unproductive has to stop, Enugu state government desires to be likened to some countries like Egypt and Israel where buses come to convey workers.
“It is either you key into this system or retire from civil service and start receiving pension.
“Governor Mbah has charged every Local government chairman in Enugu State to provide at least 200 hectares of land in each political wards for agricultural purposes, the government will provide the tractors, the seedlings and every equipment needed to enhance performance of workers.
“Enugu state government is also in partnership with foreign organizations ready to offer financial assistance and training through cooperative societies.”he said.
He used the opportunity to react to questions by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Enugu South Chapter, Comrade Micheal Nwankwo, on why some local government staff were owed February and March salaries while those who had been paid received short payment, clarification on payment of new bus fair and promotion/conversation of local Government staff.
He explained that the short payment was due to a deduction of 2000 naira tax Levy from salaries.
Ogbodo said that the delay in salary payment was based on problems encountered during verification of staff, bordering on age, name falsification and other manipulation by some staff.
He stated that promotion would be conducted soon, saying that governor Mbah has approved promotion exercise after verification.

In a remark, Dr. Bartholomew Ezeugwu, Member III, Local Government Commission, explained that Governor Mbah’s vision was to reduce poverty level to zero percent through the introduction of new innovation of modern digital farming practices.
He said that the farming system would be monitored, syncretized evaluated program which would be domesticated according to the workers environments.
Ezeugwu assured that the practice would enhance the welfare of workers since it would provide extra sources of earning.
He further said the smart green house technology was a vegetable or perishable farm which would cost about 20 to 25 million naira to establish and is capable of returning investment within nine months of establishment.
According to him, the modern farming system will benefit residents since government would provide all the required farm implements, agro processing and packaging units, buy the products, market and share the profit incurred with the farmers.
“There are several value chain involvement available. One may decide to key into production, processing or packaging section. I urge you to enroll into one of the underlisted sections and your respective cooperative societies names with the Head of Personnel Management (HPM) for soon to be collated.

Responding, Hon Caleb Ani, the chairman Enugu South Local Government Area, commended governor Mbah for his unwavering commitment to infrastructure development across the state.
He also applauded the dynamic government of the new commission and prayed for more wisdom, God’s guidance and direction in the course of discharging his duties.
Ani equally expressed satisfaction with the support and loyalty of his staff saying they were always obedient.
