An Enugu-based woman, Dr Chinemerem Anyi, has unveiled a non-governmental organisation, Global Sisterhood Alliance (GSA), to unite and empower women globally.
Unveiling the initiative on Thursday in Enugu, Anyi said that the organisation’s core mission was to create a network of women determined to uplift one another.
“GSA is a community of women committed to inclusivity, breaking through borders, cultures and backgrounds to provide support to one another.
“Our goal is to foster a world where women unite in solidarity, empower one another to lead, create and thrive, transcending borders, cultures and challenges.
“Together, we can build a future of equality, justice and opportunity for all,” Anyi said.
She said that membership in GSA was open to all women, who had attained the age of 18, regardless of status, background or nationality.
“We offer numerous benefits through support, ensuring that women’s voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
“The group already boasts of members from countries such as South Africa, Germany, Mexico and beyond, who are united by shared values and a common vision,” she said.
Prof. Uchenna Vaaser, Director of the Association of Spanish Language Advancement in Nigeria – Slang Global, highlighted challenges women faced worldwide, particularly as regards violation of their rights.
She emphasised the need for women to unite to address the challenges.
A cultural activist, Janette Housman, from VeraCruz, Mexico, urged solidarity among women to enable them to break free from stereotypes hindering their progress.
“When women come together, they become strong, assert their identity, inspire others and build a multi-cultural world through networking,” Housman stated.
Mrs Gladys Towobola, Chief Executive Officer, Peezel Farm, South Africa, emphasised the importance of overcoming fear and insecurity which, she said, often led to misjudgment of women.
She encouraged women to utilise their networks to grow together.
She urged men to support women empowerment.
“Men need to stand with women so they can thrive and achieve their dreams,” Towobola urged.
A lawyer, Mrs Nnenna Anozie, advised women to be resilient, show mutual respect and speak up against abuse.
According to her, women must be determined in their pursuit of education, business and leadership.
She said that gender-based violence often escalated when women were dependent on others for survival.
“Let us lift one another and create a supportive environment for all women,” she advised. (NAN)
