In line with Enugu State’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal refuse dumps, the Enugu South Local Government has commenced the evacuation of waste in various parts of the council area.

The initiative is part of efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment, as championed by the state government through the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA). The move aligns with the administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation and sustainable waste management practices.

His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, through the Ministry of Environment and ESWAMA, has intensified daily sanitation activities across the state to ensure that refuse is properly managed. The waste management agency has been tasked with implementing continuous cleaning efforts to make Enugu one of the cleanest states in Nigeria. This initiative includes not only the removal of illegal dumpsites but also sensitization of residents on proper waste disposal methods.

As part of the ongoing exercise, the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government, Hon. Calab Ani, recently toured evacuated dump sites within the council area.

During his visit, he engaged with residents and market leaders, urging them to dispose their waste only at designated dump sites provided by the agency. He emphasized that proper waste disposal would enhance the efficiency of the evacuation process and contribute to a cleaner environment.

Hon. Ani also issued a stern warning to individuals who indiscriminately dump refuse in unauthorized locations, including scavengers and other violators.

He reiterated that anyone caught violating the environmental laws of Enugu State would face legal consequences.
