Concerned Citizens for a Progressive Enugu State have expressed sadness over the tragic accident, that occurred on Saturday, at Ugwu Onyeama, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, which claimed many lives.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when a truck loaded with fuel reportedly collided with some vehicles and erupted into flames, killing multiple people.
In a statement issued, Tuesday, in Enugu by the Chairman of the Chairman, Concerned Citizens for Progressive Enugu group, Peter Ezih, said the unfortunate incident was a stark reminder of the urgent need for the reconstruction of the Enugu-bound lane of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The statement read: “The deteriorating state of this critical road has become a death trap, endangering the lives of countless commuters and residents.
“We cannot afford to wait for another disaster of this magnitude before taking decisive action.
“We hereby call on the Federal and State Governments, as well as relevant authorities, to prioritize the immediate reconstruction and rehabilitation of this road. It is imperative that measures are put in place to ensure the safety of all road users and to prevent future tragedies of this nature. The time to act is now.
“Let us honor the memory of those who lost their lives by taking concrete steps to make our roads safer and more secure for everyone. May their souls rest in peace, and may we never witness such a heartbreaking incident again.”
The group commiserated with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the explosion, adding, “We share in your grief and pray that God grants you the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
