The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, Saturday, paid a condolence visit to the family of the popular ogene musician, Chikezie Nwamba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah, who was shot dead on Friday by a trigger-happy policeman attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the command.
The youthful musician was reportedly shot by a police officer on his departure from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad after what the police described as a “friendly visit”.
The commissioner of police reassured the family, relatives, friends, and the people that the ongoing investigation into the case would be concluded within record time and justice duly served.
Uzuegbu who was accompanied by top officials of the State Government, emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remained a disciplined organisation where erring police officers are made to face the consequences of their actions to serve as deterrent to others.
He restated his sympathy and empathy to everyone affected by the unfortunate and callous murder of the musician, urging all and sundry to keep faith with the police while justice is done to the case.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP in a statement said the Police Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph “m”, whose unredacted photographs are attached, has been identified as responsible for the shooting. He is currently in custody and will be made to face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of the investigation.
