Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has decided to step away from the Belgium national team.

Courtois disclosed this in a lengthy statement on his Instagram account on Thursday.

The former Chelsea shot-stopper explained his decision, citing a lack of confidence under Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco.

Courtois and Tedesco reportedly clashed over Belgium’s captaincy.

The 32-year-old was left out of Belgium’s Eiro 2024 squad because of injury.

“I want to address the Belgian fans and supporters of our national team,” Courtois’ statement partly read.

“I feel privileged to have had the honor of wearing the national Jersey.

“Unfortunately, following the events with the coach and after much reflection, I have decided not to return to the Belgian national team under his management. In this matter, I accept my share of responsibility. “
